Primary Drainage Course
This course is one of the mandatory requirements for an operator to upgrade from a Class C to a Class B Machine Operator Licence.
The Primary Drainage Course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand common surveying terms, establish drainage slopes, grade changes and depths, and ensure installations comply with the ‘Drainage Guide for Ontario’. The blended learning program course includes instruction and practice in surveying, and in the principles that apply to the installation of drainage works as per Regulation 18 of the Agricultural Tile Drainage Installation Act.
Updated Blended Learning Program
This year the Primary Drainage Course is being offered as a 4-day blended learning program.
The Primary Drainage Course is made up of two parts:
- Primary Drainage Course: An Introduction elearning module (2 hours)
- Provides and overview of the basic concepts and terminology you will need for the classroom training.
- Must be completed prior to attending the classroom training
- Primary Drainage Course classroom training & exam (4 Days)
You will receive instructions on how to access the elearning module by email after registration has closed. Registration closing and elearning completion date information is provided in the Offerings listed below.

Certificate of Completion
A Certificate of Completion is granted to particpants that:
- Complete the Primary Drainage: An Introduction eLearning course prior to attending the in-class training.
- Attend the in-class training
- Successfully complete the exam. The exam will be written on the last day of the course.
Fee
$ 452.00 (includes HST)
Fee covers the cost of the course and exam.
Lunches are provided.
What to Bring
- suitable clothing for outside field work
- calculator
- tripods, levels, rods and laser equipment (primarily laser surveying rods) if possible
Examination
Exam will be written on the last day of the course.
Accommodations
You are responsible for your own accommodations.
Register
Registration priority will be given to individuals who require the course to upgrade their operator licence under the Agricultural Tile Drainage Installation Act. Registrations from out-of-province participants or for those who do not require an operator licence, will be added to a waiting list and considered if there is space available.
